Byron Hogan and his wife Kyla currently live near Amarillo, Texas. They work together day in and day out making a living with horses. It has become their way of life, from early morning feeding to late night rides. It’s a steady work load that requires alot of give and take.

Byron grew up in Guymon, Oklahoma. His mother knew horses and made sure she passed it on to him. Countless hours at horse shows and tireless days at home clinics haven’t detoured him from his passion, it just kind of stuck with him.

Kyla is also an Okie who grew up on the opposite end of the state in Lenapah, Oklahoma. Like Byron, she grew up on the back of a horse. When she was young, her grandpa made sure she had a good supply of mean little ponies. Kyla started rodeoing at a young age and continued through high school and college. She also judged horses for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

If you’re wondering about their philosophy about horses, they take a very nononsense approach. Not all horses are the same, and in turn not all horses need the same approach. They believe in shaping the program to the horse, not the horse to the program. If one wants to get the top of a building there are many ways to get there. There are many different rooms one could take or maybe the stairs. One could take an elevator or use a ladder from the outside. The point is that they look for results. Philosophies are nice, but results are what
prove them wrong or right. Miles, consistency, and work
with a  purpose are what they think helps a horse more
                    than anything.

The Hogans’ latest venture is the 2010 Extreme Mustang Makeover. For those who aren’t familiar with this event, Byron will have 100 days to train a 6-year-old mustang straight from the wild and get him in shape to compete in body conditioning, rail, cow work and a freestyle class. The fun begins May 8.
